A New Day
Friday, September 26, 2008
I have attempted changing the looks of this blog. I was able to find a template I really enjoyed, and am working to customize it my suit my own tastes. So continue staying tuned as it should all be up and running shortly. (I hope.)
Another Renovation??

T his blog will once again go under a transformation over the next few days/weeeks/months, hopefully the final one! I now own "mynameismike.ca" seeing as I am Canadian, and my name is Mike. The "mynameismike" name has been around me since I was 14 when I chose it for my MSN messenger address, and since then my usernames have always been mynameismike, even my Blogger account uses it. At first I thought it was just childish, but lately I've been glad that I kept my username all these years, and hopefully will start something with it. Hopefully. ;)

Flying to Amstermdam, 2006
I t is time again for a new template for my blog, it seems I have more fun redesigning the look of the blog than actually writing entries. So instead of attempting at writing something each day, I will attempt to post a picture daily, instead of writing "It's been _# of months" every few months. I am really enjoying the new layout, I wanted to do something very plain and simple, nothing to flashy seeing as I'll most likely just be posting pictures with actual written entries only here and there. With this sort of template I find the photos on my blog stand out a bit more. There are still a few things I am tweaking with and changing but the overall layout is done. Hope you like it.

Tricera!
Thursday, April 24, 2008

My 2nd year of university is officially over (even though I am going to be taking a semester during the summer). My last day ended on a high note, with the presentation of the above image in my Marketing Applications class. It was a group presentation of the strategy we choose to use in a simulation we had to do throughout the class. It was the second group presentation we had presented in this class. The first was very serious and business orientated. Where the second was to be as far away from the first as possible. I wanted to go for the extra-creative and blow the class away with something completely new and unexpected.
We decided to use a PowerPoint presentation to present our points, but with a twist. The above cartoon was our intro. Picture this. The first slide with just the word "Hi.". The second slide with a 3 second countdown, 3, 2, 1. The third a blank slide, with music, then the cartoon figure (me) on the far left pops up, then the cartoon figure on the far right pops up, then the character to the left, then right, and then finally the character in the middle. Lastly the Tricera logo slowly swirls from the distance into its final place above our group. When it came to presenting our points the cartoon of the person speaking at the time would pop up with a speech bubble to go with it. Below is a video to get a feeling of what the PowerPoint looked like. Unfortunately PowerPoint won't save the effects and music used in the video, so remember the above and think of it would appear.
It took my a couple of hours to do all the drawings and the shading of each of my group members, but I am very proud as to how it came out. It definitely got the attention of the class when we presented it, and we got the highest mark we could get on the creativity portion of the marking! I could get used to doing stuff like this.
P&G
Wednesday, March 5, 2008
My Marketing Applications course had a guest speaker come in the other day. A young woman who is currently working for P&G (Procter and Gamble) one of the largest and wealthiest multinational companies in the world. P&G's products include, Pringles, Tide, Gain, Always, Braun, Gilette, Duracell, Folders, and the list goes on.
To continue, our speaker works for P&G has a Brand Manager for Always (feminine hygiene). She went through what her job entails, and spoke a lot about other positions that are available at P&G. P&G has headquarters in over 80 countries in the world, giving anyone the opportunity to travel. There are usually tons of entry level positions at P&G, from their Canadian headquarters in Toronto to Paris headquarters.
By the sounds of it, I would enjoy being a Brand Manager. You make important decisions with a team of people on a specific brand. You suggest advertisement, doing research, market the product, all while working different creative teams, accountants etc.
She went over the application process to apply to P&G, it's gruesome. You first have to upload your resume to their website, then are asked to take a multiple choice test, where all answers are correct but P&G wants people who answer the questions specifically, so if you answer what they want you go on to the next level. This is where you have to take a one hour test in your university. The test consists of questions such as "There is water pouring into a cup at such such a speed, and water is pouring out at such and such a speed, when will there be no water in the cup". Now that's a terrible question, it's all math.. which freaked me out, but apparently they have a cheat sheet on their website.
So perhaps one day I will be a brand manager at P&G.
Random

Screech, taking a break from attacking my homework.
I have been tagged by my aunt Susan to write seven random facts about myself. Here goes.
1. I am a night owl. No matter how early I have to get up the next morning I can never seem to go to bed before 12am-1am. Even if I have nothing better to do than lay in bed and watch TV, I can never seem to fall asleep till after those times.
2. I do not like potatoes, and I was born on an island known for producing potatoes.
3. I have watched every season of Survivor since it aired eight years ago. That's 16 seasons of Survivor, and I am still not tired of it.
4. I am terrible at Math. Every form of math possible, addition, subtraction, division, all the way up to algebra and calculus. I just plain suck at it.
5. I find this god fellow to be extremely interesting, and question its existence all the time. I would prefer to believe that there may or may not be anything, even though I lean towards there being nothing.
6. I love X-Men, and seriously wished super-natural powers existed even at the age of 20.
7. I hate mess. I think growing up in a house where my mom has picked up after me has taught me to like living in clean environments. Now living on my own I can't stand the smallest mess especially those made by others. ( I won't name names haha)
4 Months
Sunday, February 17, 2008
It has been four months since my last post, quite awhile. So for my second attempt at having a blog I decided to change a few things. First thing I changed the name of my blog, from Colonial Street to I Am A Ad. I wanted to to have a name that fit with my current situation of going to university in hopes of one day working in advertising. Majority of the names I wanted to use were taken, so my aunt Susansuggested "I am an ad". This blog is an ad, since it is somewhat promoting my life.
I also created a new masthead to go with the new name. I like how the cartoon version of me turned out. I even used the picture and made a favicon to go next to the website url. I am sure there will be a few more small changes over the next few days.
