My Room

Above is an attempt at a Panoramic of my new bedroom. Compared to my bedroom at home it is a bit smaller. Not just in floor space but in every kind of way. The ceiling height is around 6'6'' high. Making the door 6'2'' high. I have to duck to go through the door. It didn't take long to learn to duck after banging my head five or six times. I really enjoy older homes, they always have some quirks. I like having huge windows with some what of a view (previously mentioned Signal Hill from the window closest to my desk).
I've learned that this house was built in 1902. Well actually it was rebuilt in 1902. In 1892, St. John's was devastated by a fire known as The Great Fire of 1892. It started off as a small fire in someones barn and wasn't seen as that big of a threat but according to Wikipedia several things happened that allowed the fire to devour the city.
Above is a picture of the city after the fire was finally put out. You can see the only thing left standing are the chimneys to houses, and the large stone church at the top of the hill. I now live straight down from the church in the photo, near the barn that's still standing. Another interesting thing with this house that we found out while the carpenter was working on the floor in the bedroom next to me was that the wood still had smoke soot and ash under the floor boards. Back then they used anything they could salvage to rebuild their homes. It's cool to think that it's been trapped in the floorboards for 105 years now.

wow! great post. Love your room, love the colour. Really, really interesting post. Just a little feedback sweetpea - spellcheck. You write so well so you don't want to distract the reader with spelling and grammatical errors. I know it's hard I find I reread my posts and edit and edit and I still miss mistakes.
It's a great blog!
love ya, xoxo, s
